The age and gender composition of the BASE participants'
social network was assessed with a modified version of the Social
Networks in Adult Life Questionnaire (Kahn, & Antonucci,
1980). Participants were asked to give the following details about
each network partner mentioned: Gender, type of relationship,
age, place of residence, duration of relationship, frequency
of contact and changes in the relationship within the last five
years.
Participants were asked to give the same information about persons
who (a) emotionally or instrumentally support them; (b) receive
support from participants and (c) share leisure activities with
them.
Information about the age composition of the network as
well as the age composition in terms of different types of
relationships is only available for Time 1.
